mpeg playback glitch in RH 7.1

I seem to have a glitch somewhere, when I try to view an mpeg with GTV
MPEG Player my screen goes haywire.  It basically makes the screen
divided into 8 parts, each a repeat of the first eighth of the screen
(ie, I have 8 little gnome footprints).  I just left it alone, but today
I installed xine and tried to watch an mpeg with that and had the same
result.  I didn't have this problem with RH 7.0.  ANybody have any
suggestions?
