Dusty,

    Here's what I did:

1. 'modprobe video1394'
2. 'modprobe raw1394'
3. 'mknod /dev/video1394 c 172 0'
4. 'mknod /dev/raw1394 c 171 0'
5. 'chmod 666 /dev/video1394'
6. 'chmod 666 /dev/raw1394'
7. 'dvgrab --format dv2 filename'

Dusty, you will also have to have installed libraw1394, and if you want
to use Kino and other DV control software you'll need libdv, libavc1394,
and some others. You can get them from http://linux1394.sourceforge.net

Hope that helps!!!

>Awesome!!!!! Sandi and I have been working on getting our Sony TRV-120 (Digital 8) camcorder to work under Linux. Haven't gotten it to work yet. Linux recognises my Firewire card and my camcorder, but I get an error when I try to capture DV. We keep getting this error: "raw1394 - couldn't get card info: Invalid argument". Anyone have an idea what this means? I don't know what Firewire card I have (it came with BeOS and captures fine with our camera on BeOS). Linux seems to recognize it:
