For the longest time it has been nearly impossible to run Linux on Promise
FastTrak IDE RAID controllers.  Now Promise finally releases stable drivers
for the latest operating systems, with a universal kernel 2.4 patch coming
soon.  However, the kernel developers didn't seem to like Promise's driver
code, so they're working on their own drivers for inclusion in the official
Linux kernel.

Now the only common IDE RAID controller that doesn't work in Linux is the
High-Point Technologies HPT-368 and HPT-370... that happens to be within two
of my computers.
