What about first....

What about first concentrating on creating a robust online LUAU group
with web bulletin board, code posts, etc. Just one repository for
everything that goes on including an archive of the mailing list. Since
most of us find it difficult to attend meetings, an online meeting would
be cool with some type of conferencing software. This could then lead to
hosting linux-based web video conferencing in the future and so on and so
on. We could also post all of our pictures up as well so everyone will
know what we all look like. In any case, it would be cool to build a
full-blown online community/communication system with LUAU as the center
of it all. My experience is primarily with Java and XML/XSL. The only
bulletin board system that I have tried is Java-based called Jive at
www.coolservlets.com. I've installed it on a Solarix x86 2.8 syste using
Tomcat and Oracle. It can be easily used with MySQL and other databases.
Linux intallation shouldn't be difficult. I don't know what's out there
in synchronous conferencing under Linux but I'm sure they exist. If not,
there are java-based chat programs out there as well. But we would need
something that was robust enough to hold full blown meetings of 30+ in a
manageable and organized way. I'm willing to help in anyway possible. I
don't have a server that the group can use, however. That's the only
thing.
