Hi all,

Does LUAU need a nice and convenient meeting place? Then I offer the
Mid-Pacific Institute Technology Center. I should have no problem getting
permission from the school if we schedule a week or two in advance. The
Tech Center has an ethernet and 802.11b wireless network, lots of neat
gadgets, a conference room with VGA projector and a sufficient amount of
free parking on campus in Manoa.

The technology coordinator of Mid-Pacific Institute Mark Hines and I
explored offering the Tech Center to LUAU back when the Manoa Innovation
Center started charging for meetings, but after a location was finalized I
became busy and lost track of LUAU. I assume that other location was only
temporary or was inconvenient with the parking and security? Anyway, back
then Mark Hines was very excited about the possibility of holding LUAU
meetings at the Tech Center. I am in the process of implementing many Linux
and OSS technologies on campus to solve many needs, and he is very excited
about learning more.

This facility should allow great opportunities for the group, with the
machines and network available to demonstrate cool technologies on computers
instead of just talking about them and drawing stuff on the board. If you
guys need some initial interesting subject matter, I could demo my Linux
office application server and thin clients over XDM, or Linux NAS backend
with Novell, Windows and Appletalk connectivity, or various network security
scanner and tracking tool demonstrations which I have been working on for
the school. (I also have a Helio PDA running Linux if we get bored.)

If you guys want this meeting facility, please e-mail me and I'll get the
ball rolling. I think I have a 75% or better chance of getting clearance
from the school on this, so cross your fingers.
