VOIP with linux

Has any one out there used a quicknet phonejack card in a Linux system 
yet I have download and compiled the Linux drivers that come with it the 
system sees the card.  But when I plug in a phone and start controller 
software for the card it comes up find the card.  But when I go in to the 
settings to increase the volume on the record and play it says the is no 
mixer in the system does any one know what package I have to install to fix 
that little problem.
