webcams and usb on linux

Hi Linux/Unix Gurus,

Has anybody had success using a webcam and a usb card under
linux or freeBSD? I am looking for a webcam that will run on
a linux box that has a 133 cpu or better. Any specs from
anyone who  got one to work with a fairly good stream of
animation would be helpfull to me in my research.
