ftp setup question

Mike,

Adding "ftp" to the /etc/ftpusers file fixed part of my problem. Thanks
a bunch for that tip!!!

I still can't get a "banner", or "greeting text message" as listed in
the man page for the file "/etc/ftpaccess" to appear on the login screen
though. I'm not looking for something complicated, just one of those "This
computer is for authorized users only" messages...

BTW, I think /etc/issue.net is for telnet and console logins, not ftp.
My ftp login presently displays something like this:

$ ftp 127.0.0.1
Connected to 127.0.0.1.
220 a24b161n151client14.hawaii.rr.com FTP server (Version wu-2.6.1(1) Mon Jul 3 17:47:40 HST 2000) ready.
Name (127.0.0.1:$USER):

What I want to get to is: "FTP server ready." The man page says set "greeting
terse" in /etc/ftpaccess to do this, but no matter what I set the "greeting"
to, I get the above message. Any tricks you or anyone else in the LUAU may
have to offer on how to make this work would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I'd love to use SSH and all its tools from work, but that
involves convincing my employer to get me a M$ version that is approved for
gov't networks. The new fiscal year is coming, so maybe I'll have better luck
shortly. Until then, I still need ftp.

Thanks again,

Ben Beeson
