Yep, I have Debian 2.0 set up on my box now and set up several friends
with it. I have also set up Debian 1.3 a year ago, and a year before
that, set up a Debian 1.1 and later upgraded it to 1.2 over the internet
(15 hour download!), so I think I might be able to help. One problem
with 2.0 is, there are just so many options. If it works for you, using
the wvdial package is super easy. Just run "wvdialconf
/etc/wvdial.conf", answer the questions, and watch it probe your modem,
then type wvdial to connect. It didn't work on my computer for some
reason, but it worked on my friends' and on a computer I set up for a
business client. There are several other packages in the standard
distribution for connecting. If you use KDE (doesn't come with 2.0,
will come with 2.1) it has a great graphical ppp setup/dialer a lot like
Windows' DUN.

I currently run diald to handle Internet connections on demand. To get
diald to work, you have to edit /etc/diald/connect, copy
/usr/doc/diald/examples/diald.conf to /etc/diald/diald.conf and edit it,
and optionally, edit /etc/ppp/options and /etc/ppp/pap-secrets to get
pap authentication working. This option is faster than login
authentication if your ISP supports it, but is beyond the scope of this
email. If anyone is interested, I'll post how it's done, but I got my
info from the PPP-HOWTO, so you can also go there and read the free
manual ;-)
