Depends on the brand of camera...  I have a Canon Powershot which stores 
on CompactFlash cards, so I just installed a PCMCIA card reader in my 
machine, used the standard Linux Card Services stuff, and I can move the 
cards directly from the camera to the machine.  Since I made sure to buy 
a camera which stored in a standard format (JPEG), it just looks like a 
file system, and I don't have to do any conversions or anything else.
