My time in Hawaii is done.  I came here in 1991 for a three
year tour, but my employer decided to save money, and changed
the rules for travel, which hooked me up with a five year tour.
Then they offered me 30 days of paid vacation in exchange for 
staying here one more year.  By then, I fell in love with
Hawaii, and decided to stay for three more years.

Even though several people want me to stay (I'm flattered), 
the 40% paradise tax is much more than I want to pay.  Even 
though Hawaii is paying about the same as Florida for IS jobs, 
$150K will buy a huge five bedroom house in FL, but it only 
makes for a down payment here.

Also, my monster.com job agent sends me about 100 new database/
web master/Linux jobs every week.  Hawaii can't match that.

My wife loves it here, like I do, but she's tired of paying
rent.  In the time we've lived here, we paid $135K in rent,
and we still don't own any part of a house.

My mother-in-law simply doesn't like the isolation from the
mainland, nor does she like the culture, nor anything else
about Hawaii.
