1) Dumb questions: Do you have expect and minicom installed?
                   Is expect located at /usr/bin/expect ?
                   Does the logfile directory exist?

2) I'd suggest running minicom interactively first and issuing the modem
   commands one at a time looking for the OK response on each one.  When
   you have it working and paging OK through minicom directly, then make
   any necessary modifications to the expect script that are called for
   and try the script.
