Well yes it is I guess now taht I think about it. I still think installpkg
xxx.tgz is probably the easiest. No dependicies, nothing really to worry
about...

Again.. I prefer .deb's tho'. Much more... comprehensive.

I view rpm's as a stripped down .deb.

And at least Debian has a package interface.... I guess redhat does but
again.. nowhere close to Debian.

But sadly enough.. Redhat is the standard... I convinced my boss to run
Linux, but he only wants Redhat... standardize on it at anyrate. I think
that's pretty stupid because when you get a security hole, you'll get it
all the way, but he has his point too.

Plus, our software vendor who's making small touchy, feely inroads to
Linux (I believe we're the only install that WILL us it.. not using it now
'cause no hardware to run it on yet) only will support Redhat.

Not like I need support. But y'know how MIS types are.

*shrug*

Also... if I had to take an informal survey... I'd say 70% of the users
here use an RPM based distro. (Redhat, Caldera, SuSE)

And sadly enough... you want precompiled software... you get an RPM.
That's just a way of it.

Well.. I"m off rant mode for now...
